Herb Trimpe worked for Marvel Comics during a 30 year period drawing many characters from the Marvel Universe. But for many fans and collectors he is best known as the definitive Hulk artist, having started working on the character in Tales to Astonish, and then continuing to pencil the Hulk for most of the first 100 issues in his own series. This of course includes the 1st appearance of one of the most popular characters of all time, Wolverine in Incredible Hulk #181 (after the last panel cameo in #180).
Herb also worked on dozens of other titles for Marvel and is also widely remembered by fans for his work on Captain Britain, GI Joe, Defenders, Godzilla and Shogun Warriors among others.
People often ask Herb is he has invented The Hulk, and his reply is always the same: “If The Hulk were my character, do you think I’d be standing here talking to you? I’d be at my villa on the French Riviera, or cruising the Caribbean on my 60 foot yacht.”
